Citizens without Representation.
In the current Israeli election system, citizens vote for lists
not individual candidates. Most voters are not familiar with
the representatives
that are assigned by the party. After the elections, the President
of the State awards the task of forming a new government to
the leader of the party who he believes has the best chance
of accomplishing this task.
In the current election system, elected representatives are
not accountable to their voters, and do not feel compelled to
act in their constituents' best interests.
Israeli citizens need to be empowered through knowledge of how
a democracy can best work for them, and what are their rights
and duties as citizens. By implementing a presidential electoral
system that has regional elections, the voters will elect representatives
who are accountable to them. Ultimately, the new system will
generate stable governments. |
